Financing of PV Systems

Help your clients say yes. A one-day course on the financial side of solar, from ROI calculations and cashflow to loans, leasing and the tax implications of Section 12B.

Description

One of the biggest obstacles to closing a solar sale isn't the technology, it's the client's question: "How do I pay for this, and will it actually be worth it?" This course gives you the knowledge to answer that question clearly and convincingly.

Over one day, you'll learn how to calculate the financial viability of SSEG PV systems across different system types: grid-tied and grid-tied with battery backup and how to present those calculations in a way clients actually understand. We cover the full financing landscape: private equity, loans and leasing options, the revenue and savings picture versus Eskom tariffs, cashflow modelling, and ROI. We also work through the tax implications of Section 12B, which is increasingly relevant for commercial and industrial clients.

The course is hands-on and case study-based throughout, with a focus on the questions and arguments that work in real South African client conversations.

The course is available online or in-person. Participants will need a laptop and external mouse; a second screen is recommended for the online format.

Target Audience

This course is for solar professionals who need to understand and communicate the financial case for PV to their clients:

  • Business owners and CEOs of solar companies who want a stronger grasp of financing structures and client proposals
  • Solar engineers and technicians with strong technical knowledge but limited financial background
  • Sales professionals who need to answer client questions about costs, returns and financing options with confidence
  • Entrepreneurs and founders building a solar business who need to understand how clients fund their systems

Main Topics

  • Financial viability of SSEG PV systems across different system types
  • Electricity cost comparison: Eskom tariffs vs PV system savings
  • Cashflow modelling and ROI calculation
  • Financing structures: private equity, secured and unsecured loans, and leasing
  • Tax implications of Section 12B
  • How to understand and advise your clients - the right questions and arguments for South African market conditions

Prerequisites

A basic understanding of PV systems is required; this is not a technical course, so you don't need to be an installer or designer. If you're new to solar, Solar 101 is a good starting point before attending.

A basic understanding of business management, accounting, or finance is helpful and will make it easier to follow the course. However, the course builds the financial knowledge from the ground up. If you're unsure whether this is the right fit, get in touch and we'll help you decide.

Registration Process

When you click on REGISTER, you will need to provide all of your particulars in order to be issued with a pro-forma invoice. Your attendance of any training or assessment can only be confirmed on full payment of the invoice. Please consult our T&Cs for more information.

This course is primarily available for group bookings on request - ideal for sales teams or company training days. Contact us to arrange a dedicated session.

Accreditation

International accreditation by the German Solar Energy Society (DGS e.V).

Your Next Step

Financing knowledge works best when it's paired with strong sales and design skills. Here's where participants typically go from here:

  • Build your sales process. Solar Sales Expert is the natural companion to this course. Itt covers the commercial side of winning clients, quoting efficiently and structuring proposals, where Financing of PV Systems gives you the financial depth to back those proposals up.
  • Move into commercial projects. Financing structures and tax advantages become significantly more complex - and more valuable - at commercial and industrial scale. If you’re working at a technical level, Commercial PV Design gives you the foundation to scale.
